London, March 11, Jn the Chief Justices' Court, when the libel case of George Gordon Moore v. E, Hulton and Co. was 'mentioned, Mr Duke, K.C., for the plaintiff, said that Moore was an American who:' periodically visited London, and defendants were the owners of a number of provincial newspapers. The libel, which did not originate with them, accused plaintiff of obtaining military secrets at the British front, and that he returned to America and used his posit inn to work mischief among the Allies. Ji, Duke added that plaintiff had nttde lh{ acquaintance of Lord French some ycais ago, and this acquaintance ripened into friendship, Moore being later invited In the front. The libejs referred t0.1h.! fact that. Lord French and Mr. Moore were joint tenants of a house at Lancaster Gate, and also contained an in'* solent suggestion that Mbbre went to Long Island to confer with Count Bernstorft", when, as a matter of fact, b* was the guest of Mr. Roosevelt. The defence was an absolute withdrawal of the charges, with fullest for every imputation. Lord French testified that he had known Moore for many years. When either of them were in London they resided at a jointly-rented house at. Lancaster Gate. Jloore visited him at thjs front in 1014, after he had been in England. Mr Moore had the ownership and constitutions of large American undertakings, and had rendered gratitutous and valuable scientific services, wit|t satisfactory and invaluable results. Lor* French emphatically denied that there was a shadow of foundation for the suggestion that Mr. Moore was acquainted with military secrets. The defence pleaded that the article was a regrettable mistake, inadvorUuUr published in the Manchester Evening Chronicle.
