London, Oct. 27. Wheat: Strong, in response to a sharp recovery in America and Canada. The American visible supply is 73,045,000 bushels. Chicago December options are 9!>J 1 02 cents, May options iOIJ to 101 cents.

ENGLISH WOOL MARKET. Received Oct. 28, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 27. Merinos to-day were, firm at opening rates, and crossbreds were in sellers' favor, often a halfpenny. The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the clips named: Uakleigli, top 17d, average 14Jd; Ohoka, top '27 Ad, average A>jjd.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S RETORT.

The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London. October 23. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):—

Meat.—There is a better demand for mutton and laniD this week on account of the decrease in amount, together with higher prices for home-grown.

Mutton—Canterbury, 7%<1 per lb. for ■light weight; heavy weights, 7(1; other brands tiniri Canterbury cannot lie quoted. Very few wethers arc now released to be offered to tile public. Ewes are selling freely at ">%d to Gil. Lamb. —Canterbury twos, S%d per lb: fours, 7y a il; second-class quality light weight 7 15-lfid; other brands than Canterbury, SVi.'l per lb for best quality light weight; ordinary quality 7%d. Beef.—Chilled boef, a small supply, binds B%d per lb; fores o'/ 2 d; New Zealand, only inferior quality for sale, and is selling very slowly; hinds fid per lb, fore 3 sd.

Butter.—The market is very unsettled. Prices are irregular. The margarine output is very large. Tile British output was never larger, and is selling not available. United States, 74s to 78s; low grade, 04s to 70s. Hemp.—The market is firm, with an improved demand. New Zealand good-1 fair per ton on spot, £33 10s; New Zealand , fair per ton on spot, £3l- 10s. Manila, new graded fair per ton, £4O. Forward shipment about the same. The output from Manila for the week was 22.000 bales.

Wheat—The. market is firm, with a hardening tendency. October to November shipment, per quarter, Canadian 52s tid; American, 52s Bd. Oats. —The market is firm, but.the demand is only moderate. Argentine, per quarter, 28s.
