A train of open trucks, with a covered passenger car, runs from Taringamotu to Waituhi. A number of Maoris travelled on an open truck, the pakeliaa travelling in the. covered car. Apparently the train ran off the line, as the trucks were overturned, killing a Maori child, badly injuring the mother, and -breaking the legs of two Maori women and the arm of another. Fortunately the covered van saved the pakehas, who escaped injury.
