YESTERDAY'S SITTING. There was a fairly long sitting of'the Magistrate's Court at New Plymouth yesterday morning, before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M. BY-LAW CASES. The following biva.-he.-. of the Borough by-laws were di.i't with: — Geoll'rcy Hughson, of I'ungarehu (Mr. Roy) for leaving mi unlightcd motor car ill the street af Ur dark, 5s and costs 7s. llis solicitor expfciwi that Hughson's supply of oil had run out. Leslie lioy Curtis, for a similar offence, was fined a like amount. John Henchman, of Moturoa, for allowing a bull to stray 011 the road, was fined 10s and costs T-. Noel Clement Harding, for riding an unlighted cycle after dark, was lined 7s Gd and costs 7s. Walter Mumford, for ioolhpath cycling, 10s and costs 7s. Mr. B. Tippins prosecuted as Borough inspector. TERRITORIAL CASES. Charges of failure to attend parades were dealt with as follows: William liridger, who did not appear, and who had attended only two parades since December 15, was lined 10s and costs 7s. Gordon W. Turnbull was indicted for this offence under a date 011 a date on which he was at parade, and the information was withdrawn by the Department. Henry M'Gahey, Frank W. Morshcad, Wilfred Bellringer, Cyril A. Ward and Leo Walsh were each lined 5s and costs 7s. . F. V. Sole was convicted without fine, his excuse being that his wife was ill and he could not leave her 011 the date in question. The case against William Bransgrovo was withdrawn, he having been declared physically unlit to serve. lie stateil that he had previously been fined for non-attendance, although he had told his captain that lie, held a medical certificate and had been told that the .case would be withdrawn. I lis worship advised him to apply for a rehearing. OVER-WATERED BUTTER. DAIRY COMPANY FINED. A charge of having offered for export a box of butter containing over the legal proportion (16 per cent.) of water was preferred against the OkatoPuniho Dairy Company, Ltd., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M. Mr. Johnson, Government butter grader, prosecuted, and Mr. R. Pepperell, secretary of the company, appeared 011 its behalf. In pleading guilty to the charge, Mr. Pepperell said that his company was entirely in the hands of its manager, who had been strictly instructed not to allow an undue percentage of water in the butter. Mr. Johnson, in reply to Mr. Crooke, said that the company had once been over watered, ft might be an advantage to a manager to have the butter over watered in order to obtain a big overrun, lie would then be classed as a good manager by the suppliers. His worship imposed a tine of £ls with 7s costs, remarking that the com■Pany was responsible for the acts of its manager.
