A PECULIAR CASE.

The Commercial Bank of Australia L suing Cora Minnctt, alias Bella Hawker. and Herbert Cowell, alius Herbert Hawker, to recover £-28,000, which, it is alleged, Robson wrongly delivered to defendant's bank. Counsel stated that the lady's name is really Minnie Braggctt. The bank was robbed by Robson, who handed the notes to the lady. The latter admitted the. facts, baying that she thought the money was Robson's own. The male defendant disclaimed any knowledge of the. affair. Williamson, director of the tiank, gave evidence that Cora Minnett admitted that possibly she had received three thousand from Robson, and oxpressed astonishment, when told that the nfcncy had been stolen. She offered the bank fifty thousand sterling in shares in her company, to be returned when Robson's indebtedness was liquidated, on condition that the bank did not prosecute Robson. Cora's counsel stated that his client acted in Sydney under the name of ''Vane Cowell." Robson gave evidence tha*t he was an actor, born in New Zealand. He met Cora in Melbourne in 1907, and acted as her secretary, receiving £7 weekly. It is believed Robson is well-off. He is interested with Cora in a company t« encourage Australian emigration.
