RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
OLD MAN RUN OVER. As the 0.40 train from Wanganui \va approaching the top of Brunswick hi] yesterday morning, the fireman notice, a man's hat lying by the rails, and a the train was proceeding very slowly a the time he jumped off to pick it up He then noticed the body of a man ly ing across the rails immediately in fron of the «ngine. He 'had, r however, m time to get the body out of the wa; before the engine struck it and carriei it along for about five yards until, th train was pulled up. It was then founi that the body was that of an elderl; man who was bleeding from an ugl; gash over the right eye. The man wa placed in the guard's van and hi wounds dressed as well as possible, afte which he was taken back in the trail to Aramoho and com eyed to the hospi tal. the identity ol the unfortunate man is at present unknown. It is sur mised that he was knocked down by om of the trains convoying territorials t< the Oringi camp on Sunday, and had la'i unconscious icross the rails until stnici by the train this morning.—"Pate* Press." ■ ' ■ H ~-.'J-»
