Don Cameron was also, an interested spectator. It is doubtful if his injury will allow him to play ttgain this season. It 'is satisfactory to note that four Taranaki players have been included in the North Island team, viz.. Stohv (Tukapa),.Roberts (Okaiawal, Young (Waiinate) and Cain (Clifton). Ktohr and Cain have been similarly honored on a previous occasion, whilst Stohr has represented 'New Zealand. Young and Ro'berts are making their first appearance, and.it is certain they will give a good account of themselves, especially the latter, who is undoubtedly the finest centre three-quarter in New Zealand. These four are reminded that they must leave by Wednesday morning's mail train. The following will represent Star in their'match against Rovers, at Western Park, at 3 o'clock to-day:—Okey, Richards, Woods, Hawkins. Charters, Pilcher, Dewar, Penwarden, Packard, McAllum, Gleeson, Stannering, Clarke, Pike, and Bellringcr. Rovers will be represented- by the following against Star:—Newel], (iraut (2), Webster.' Thompson (2), Reid, Ellis, Quilliam, Brown. Kilgour, Martin, [lore, Jennings, and Drake. Judged by their display in the matches against Stratford High School last week, the New Plymouth High School fifteens play good football. Their's is a good all-round fifteen, with more than a dash of brilliancy. It was pleasing to mark the attention paid to the science of the game. This was evident from time to time by the heady tactics they adopted, when on the attack. Had they been matched against a better team, and thus placed more on their mettle, it is safe to say that a rattling and clever match would have been the result. As regards the backs, (he captain (X. Little) was a pillar of strength both on the attack and defence. The most brilliant man was Bruce, with his ell'eetive swerving run. Hamblyn made a very good half, and often set his backs in motion. He plays a strong game, but is a bit inclined to repeat to excess the—at times —very excellent practice of rushing into the pack and forcing his way through instead of either kicking or passing to his fiveeighths. He would also be well advised to stand up closer to his pack when they are engaged in hooking the ball. These are little failings which can easily he mastered. Crone made a .sterling full-back, being, particularly so'lid in his

Tsc-tse fly, was patchy. Occasionally hi put in some very creditable work. Om thing, however,' stands to New Ply mouth's discredit. To a man, all tin back* indulge in the peculiar pastime o: passing while stationary. Coming t< , the forwards, Goss is" undoubtedly a J bora Rugby player, with ». promising future before him. His breakaway ', rushes; were a treat to watch. Pott made a good wing-forward. He is possessed oi a fairly smart turn of speed, and can dribble. A. Little also demonstrated that lie can play good football. As regards the remaining forwards, it would be difficult to individualise. Mention must he made of the splendid tackling of the New Plymouth boys. The Stratford boys were smaller and palpably less experienced than their New Plymouth cousins. Nevertheless they played undaunted to the end. ' Their forwards were a fairly hefty crew. The -wingforward, Belcher, played a fine,, buttling game, while the diminu'Five five-eighths, Stanners, earned many laurels with his place-kicking. TARANAKI RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held at Stratford on Thursday night, when there were present: Messrs Jas. McLeod (chairman), P. O'Dea, A. Lees, J. Chalmers, Jas. Garcia and P. Skoglund (secretary). - 'vPLAYERS REPORTED. V. f. Tate, who was ordered off the field by Mr. Spurdle for kicking an opponent in the Inglewood-Ciifton junior match, was suspended until the end of the first round in 1913. L.' Brabant, reported by Referee Roeh for dispuHii" j decision in the TukapaStar '••'■•y.iir m.-.teh, was suspended for two Thursdays. Ward, an Eltham player, who has already down for several weeks, was suspended, until the end of the season for kicking an opponent in the Eltham v. Tukapa junior match. Mr. ,tas. Young, referee in the Ka-ponga-Opunake match, reported a player named -D. King for rough play. The player was suspended pending furjher enquiries. PROTESTS. A protest by Eltham, on the grounds that Tukapa juniors had played a player who had been ordered off the previous Thursday, was held over till next meeting. Waimate wrote objecting to Manutahi thirds playing some of the Patea .thirds against them. They did not wish to claim the match, but asked that it should be re-played on a neutral grouncj.—Re-' solved that the match be played at Hawera on July 13. The Manawatu Rugby Union notified that they' would probably be sending a team to Taranaki, the date of which ' would be notified later. ' . The Wanganui Rugby Union wrote ex- < pressing appreciation of the kind'hospi-' tality extended to its representatives when in Hawera. j The Star Football Club wrote asking if they could draw from their juniors to play,in the Saturday competition, as their senior team could only must 13 men now, owing to accidents.—The Union j passed a resolution regretting that it ] could not sanction the request. The New Zealand Rugby Union forwarded, a grant of £8 towards the en- ] co.uragement of school football. —It was .resolved, to donate a set of caps to the j .winning team in each division. ' In reply to a request from the Wanganui Union asking for a visit from a 1 jitit!oi" feah'i, it was resolved to suggest I'th'at!\'{''B : ''representative team should be sent, flic''Wanganui Union is also to wh'at'it is prepared to contribn'te'tpwards the expenses. ; ,'.Tl]e 'Efiyal Picture Company, New Plymouth, wfote offering complimentary tickets''to visiting representative football- , ers.T-Acqepted. with thanks. The' New Zealand Rugby Union wrote warning players against taking part in any practice game under League rules. The Hawera •Club forwarded the bal-ance-sheets in connection with the Wellingioini and Wanganui matches. These showed that the gate in the one was .£I4.I.IQiWI and the other £B2, the net ia*i)piuit- received from the club being 1 -£icr Vos-3d.' The secretary stated that the Union would net £OO. It was pointed out that the Hawera Club had charged tftetliri'drY for preparing the ground and had also deducted 10 per cent, (over'£22) of the ground, which the I?iiiaa\ 'understood was being obtained ■from' the' A. and P. Association free. Th'e Union protested against this deduction and Messrs O'Dea, Chalmers and Lees"wc"re appointed a sub-committee to interview the Hawera Club and the A. ami 'P. Association on the matter. [Last night's Hawera Star states that the Hawera Football Club has presented. :£5 to the Egmont A. and P. Association, in consideration of its having granted the use of the show ground fori, the' recent representative football matches'] In. reply to a request from the New Zealand Union as to the terms the Union J.would allow for the South Island match, itj'wus decided to donate the net gate. -•. In. response to a direction from the 'annual meeting, the management committee of the New Zealand Union ex- ' pressed the opinion that under the laws of the game no player could be reported for misconduct on the field of play by Wiy person other than the referee, and that therefore the O-tago Union's by-law ! was not in order.
