TRAMWAYS CONFERENCE
AN EMPHATIC PROTEST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Before disbanding, the Tramways Conference, sitting i u committee, ' passed tho following resolution: "That this conference of delegates from various centres of the Dominion, having or contemplating tramway undertakings, enters its emphatic protest against the action of the Government in its unwarrantable interference with local government in the issue by the Department of Public WotObs of additional regulations, for the control of tramways, as such regulations, unless considerably modified, will constitute arbitrary interference with the rights of public bodies, and will seriously affect the economical running of tramways, .because a large increase in capital expenditure and annual working expenses is involved without any corresponding advantages."
