SEIZURE OF LIQUOR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. The police raided a boarding-ho.use in the city known as The Mansions and the private residence of a man named Harris Smith at Parnell, seized a quantity of beer and spirits. ' A LOAN REJECTED. ■ Pahiatua, Monday. • The poll of the Akitio County ratepayers on the proposal to borrow £20,000 for metalling and bridging was losv, by six votes. A second poll is possible. , MALICIOUS STONE-THROWING. Gisborne, Monday. George Sampson, alias Reid, was sentenced to four months for deliberately hurling a stone through a jeweller's plate gla.ss window. He had served two months for damage of a similar nature in Auckland. THE PARNELL TUNNEL. Auckland, Monday. The sub-committee of business men appointed to report on the question of, the duplication of the railway tunnel at Parnell reported that duplication is desirable and necessary in the interests of commerce, public safety, and the ultimate advantage of the railway itself. The committee's report was received, and the board deferred its consideration for a week. The report was prepared in terms of a resolution carried at a public meeting in October, 1905, presided over by Sir Joseph Ward, who. was then .(Minister of Railways, setting out that if representative men go over the Penrose section after its completion and decided that the tunnel is necessary, the Minister shall be bound to carry out the duplication.
