SUPREME COURT.
CHARGE OF MURDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day the charge of wife murder against Alfred Albert Cash was proceeded with. Dr. Lindsay, giving evidence, expressed the opinion that accused was insane when the deed was committed. His mind was an absolute blank. Dr. Murray, on the contrary, was of of opinion that prisoner knew what he was doing. In cross-examination, the latter admitted that if the facts given in evidence were correct they tended to show that accused was suffering from phthisical insanity. NAPIER SESSIONS. Napier, Monday. At the Supreme Court Finlay John McLean was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for false pretences. Sir Robert Stout leaves for Wellington to-morrow to preside at the farewell to the Premier, and Mr. Justice Sim arrives to-night to carry on the sessions. NELSON SESSIONS. Nelson, Last Night. The Supreme Court sessions commenced this morning before Mr. Justice Chapman, who congratulated the Grand Jury on the lightness of the calendar. Luke Hobman pleaded guilty to two charges of pilfering cargo on the steamer Pateena, and was sentenced to two months' imprisonment on each, the sentences to be concurrent. Arthur Albert Ncwson was charged with committing an unnatural offence, and was found not guilty. A RE-TRTAL ENDED. Napier, Last Night. In the re-hearing of the case in which Donald Morrison, of Ormondville, was charged with stealing sheep, the properly of his unc\o, Jonathan TTolden (in which the jury disagreed on Friday), resulted in the jury returning a verdict of not guilty, after an absence of an hour au,d three-quarters.
