JAPAN AND AMERICA

THE NEW TREATY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Washington, February 26. The new Japanese treaty does not alter the tariff provisions of the' 1804 treaty, but a new trade arrangement may be made at any time it is desirable. Such an arrangement would probably follow the lines of the Canadian reciprocity agreement. JAPANESE SATISFACTION. Received 27, 10.10 p.m. Tokio, February 27. The American Senate's prompt ratification of the Japanese commercial treaty is hailed with satisfaction, as facilitating Japan's readjustment of commercial relations with other countries.
