THE FRENCH SITUATION
M. BRIAND'S RESIGNATION. 8y Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Paris, February 20. M. Briand, the French Premier, is influenced by his vanishing majority in the Chamber, which, he considers, shows the Chamber's desire for a change of leadership. M. Pichon, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and others intend to withdraw if M. Briand resigns. M. Delcasse is* spoken of as his probable successor. POSITION DUE TO INTRIGUE. THE PENALTY OF FIRMNESS. Received 27, 10.10 p.m. Paris, February 27. Although SI. Combes is primarily responsible for the onslaught on Mr. Briand, the Premier, the latter's friends do tot expect that any breach of the continuity of MM. Briand and Pichon's policy is desired. The diminution of the the Government's majority is due to sectional intrigues against SI. Briand's firmness in dealing with social and labor questions.
