A deputation representing the Social Reform Committee of the Church of England, including Archbishop Clarke, interviewed Sir. Batchelor with respect to the care of aborigines, and suggested that a land reserve be made for them, and that the Federal Government take over the whole control of the aborigines. Mr. Batchelor said the treatment of the natives in the past was a blot on Australian government, and he was not going to allow the past condition of affairs to continue. A protector and two inspectors would be appointed, also medical officers for.,various districts, to look after the blacks, and one or two reserves would immediately be established. = I
