(Conducted by "Eileen"). SOCIAL NEWS. The Tarunaki Jockey Club held its' amuial autumn meeting last Wednesday and Thursday. The weather was fine and verv hot, but the smoke from the bush fires made it rather difficult to follow the horses round the course without glasses. The second day, however, was better, and the attendance both days was very good. On the first day I noticed—

:■ PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. and Mrs. Deacon, of New Plymouth, have gone for a trip to Christchurch, Miss Deacon is visiting friends in Oamaru. Mrs. Douglas and Miss Shaw, who have been on a visit to Ashburton, are

expected back during the early part of nest week. Dr. and Mrs. Walker leave for the Old Country during the coming week. They hope to return in November. Mrs. D. S. .Taylor, of Waverley, has been on a visit to New Plymouth, and rwitrns to-day. Mrs. Mofiitt, of Okaiawa, i 3 on a visit to Mrs. Chancy. The Rev. F. G. Evans has shifted to his new residence near the racecourse. The Rev. John Wilkinson leaves on Monday for Auckland to attend Synod. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Langley, of Durham road, are about to go "on an extended holiday to the Rotorua and Auckland districts.
