THISTLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Patrick Small, a fanner at Wheatstouc, was fined £"> for failing to clear Californian thistles from his farm. Mr. Day, S.M., said it was the worst ease in regard to thistles that had ever come before him, as evidence showed that Small actually threshed a wheat crop containing matured thistle seed, thus giving the means of distribution of the seed. LOCAL TODIES' LAW. Ashburton, Last Night. An information, laid by the Mayor, was served on Mr. Hugo Fricdlander, chairman of the Ashburton Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, this morning, charging him with acting as a member of the board after he had forfeited his scat by reason of having been concerned or interested in certain payments exceeding £lO made by the board. The case will be heard on the 24th inst. GROUNDED AT THE BLUFF. Bhlff. Friday. The steamer Knight of the Garter, while entering the harbor at 7 o'clock this morning without a pilot, ran aground on a ledge rock on the port side of the channel, about Ave chain* east of the Bluff wharf. The damage done is not known exactly, but the vessel does not seem to be making water. The spot where the Knight of the Garter struck is the same as that touched by the Manuka last year.
