SHEEP SHEARING CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Brisbane, February 17. In the sheep-shearing contest for th« championship of the world, a purse of £SOO, and a side wager of £IOO a-side, between Zemmerle, of Toowomba, and Maurer, of Glen Innes, in two and a half hours Zemmerle shore 32 sheep and Maurer 28, the former being awarded 190 points and Maurer 179 points.
QUEENSLAND NATIONAL BANK. Brisbane, February' 17. At the half-yearly meeting of the Queensland National Bank the chairman said the outlook was good, the season everything that could be desired, and all primary industries flourishing. The bank proposed to sell the Millaquin and Yengarie Sugar Company to a new company with a capital o'f £750,000, the hank taking payment in fully-paid shares.
THE RICHMOND DISASTER. Melbourne, February 17. The Railway Commissioners have endorsed the dismissal of Melville, driver of the Elsternwick train in the Richmond disaster.
THE COCKLE CREEK STRIKE. Sydney, February 17. The arbitrator's decision, in connection with the Cockle Creek works strike, condemns the action of the men, who it states had been foolishly advised, and suggests a return to work pending placing the case before the Arbitration Court.
QUEENSLAND BORROWING. Melbourne, February 17. Queensland has decided not to continue negotiations for a loan of £500,000 from the Federal Government. It is understood that she is in search of a large amount and will go to a market where she will 'get more advantageous terms. Mr. Dcriham states that he has decided that it is not in the best interests of Queensland to take a Federal loan.
