FIRES.

A GARAGE BURNED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Palmerston N., Saturday. A fire at 3.15 this morning destroyed the front portion of premises in Fitzherbert street, occupied by Scfilager and Cavell, motor and cycle engineers, together with the stock and valuable machinery. The rear portion of the premises escaped serious injury. The adjoining shop was occupied by W. Rickard, bootmaker, whoso stock sustained trifling damage by smoke. Rickard's stock was insured'for £OS in the Royal Office. Schlagcr and Cavell's plant and stock were insured for £350 in the London and Liverpool and Globe. The building, which was owned by H. Woollerman, was insured for £250 in the Atlas Office.
