AN ERRING TRUSTEE
PAWNS YOUNG LADY'S JEWELLERY Auckland, January 5. A charge of stealing jewellery valued at £3, the property of Dolly M'Cauley, was preferred at tlie Police Court yesterday against a young man named Oliver Charles Laurie. H appeared that Laurie had been keeping company with Miss M'Cauley, who had entrusted hirn with the jewellery. Several times he was as'ked for the articles, but each time he oilerctl a diil'erent excuse. Eventually the young lady ascertained that Laurie had pxwned tile jewellery, and the present proceedings were instituted. For the defence it was stated that the arI tides had only been pawned temporarily, ! and that the accused intended to recover I there Inter on. The Magistrate said he would give Laurie a chance, and ordered him to conic up for sentence when called upon.
