Many methods have been advocated for the destruction of small birds, but that adopted by a farmer at Clarkcvjlle recently will scarcely recommend itself for general use. The farmer was firing at birds in his straw-built stable, using a gun, and the shot ignited the straw, the building being quickly burned tis the ground The Federal Oovcrnuient of the United States has expended £50,000 on the erection of a theatre for the purpose of providing amusement for the 4000 inmates of St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the Insane. The authorities took the step on the recommendation of the specialists, \vho hold that amusements are the greatest, aids towards curing insanity.
