AUCKLAND'S CATHOLIC BISHOP
DR. CLEARY APPOINTED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Auckland, Last Night. .News was received in Auckland to-dav that Archbishop Redwood, Metropolitan of New Ze-ihnd. had received a fable from Rome statin..- that the Very Rev. Br. Clejuy. of Diiuwlin. late editor of the Tiiiblet. hud been appointed Roman Catholic BHiop of Auckland, vice the late Bishop Lonihan. The new bishop was chosen by the clergy of Auckland diocese on 25th February, and in accordance with custom his name a.s dignissimus was submitted to the Vatican, together with those of the Very Rev. Father Brodie, P.P. (Waihi), as dignior. and the Very Rev. 'Dean Hackett, P.P. (Puoroa) as* dignus. The selection -of the clergy has now been ratified, and Dr. Cleary fills the vacant see.
