A RAILWAY CARRIAGE TRAGEDY
COLLIERY CASHIER MURDERED. WIDOW COMPENSATED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received June 17, 12.30 a.m. London, June 17. The County Court awarded the widow of Nesbit £3OO compensation, holding that the circumstances came within tae scope of the Workers' Compensation Act, as the murder was committed during employment. On March 17 the body of Mr. Nesbit, cashier at the Weddrington Colliery, was found huddled under a" seat in a 'Newcastle train. He carried with him a fortnight's pay for the men. The colliery company offered £IOO reward for the discovery of the criminal. An examination of the bullets in Nesbit's head and in the compartment of the railway carriage showed that two revolvers were used. Seven bullet wounds were found in Nesbit's head, some being in the forehead. They were evide r.ly fired from the opposite seat. The bag ■with the wages, containing £370, was missing.
