PETROLEUM NEWS.
OPERATIONS AT MOTUROA. The operations recommenced at No. 2 bore yesterday morning. The- staff was engaged in putting in the 2y 2 -inch easing, and the manager reported at 6.30 lust night that 1500 ft had been placed in position. At this point the well commenced to flow, «nd flowed for fully half an hour—'principally oil. Prior to this, small blow-outs had been taking place, but when the continuous stream set in operations had to cease, as the me» at the bore found it impossible to control the flow. The well was still flowing over the top at 8.30 p.m. The work will he resumed this morning, if possible. At the No. 1 (Birthday) bore the manager reported that it is expected that the whole of the 0-inch casing will be removed to-day. With the bore in such a state this is a very creditable piece of ' work. When the casing is removed at the No. 1 well, the reaming out of the bore will commence, and the well will be' cleaned out. It is expected that oil in fair quantities will then be obtained. At No. 3 satisfactory progress has been made with the boring of the well to a. greater depth. The small refinery which is now set in place at No. 2 bore did excellent work yesterday. Mr. Grace has now carried the work of refining much further than any stage previously reached here, and' a samnle of the paraffin w«x obtained from the petroleum from No. 2 and No. 3: wells can be seen at this office. Messrs. El win and Grace will leave on Saturday morning for Palmterston to set up the company's exhibit at the Manawatu Winter Show. The refinery will be shown in actual working.
