H.M.S. PIONEER.
H.M.S. Pioneer is due to arrive at New Plymouth from Wesfcport earljr on Saturday morning.' The vessel will remain here until Tuesday evening. The Pioneer is a twin-screw .protected cruiser of the third class, and was built in 1899. Her tonnage is 2200. indicated horse-power 5000, and she is capable of a speed of 20 knots an hour. She has eight guns, and at present she is used as the trainingship for the members of the Australasian ■branches of the Royal Naval Reserve. -Her officers are: Commander William F. Blunt, Lieutenants M. J. R. MaxwellScott and G. H. Dennistoun. NavigatingLieutenant J. J. Brewer, EngineerLietttenant H. Evans, Surgeon John FulJarton, M.8., Pavma- er A. T. L. Nve, Sub-Lieutenant 11. f . Joyce. The warrant officers are: Gunner Henry Le<rg, Carpenter L. G. Lewis, and ArtificerEngineer Samuel Leather. Captain G. G. Smith, registrar of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Naval Reserve, accompanies the Pioneer for the purpose of enrolling recruits for the Reserve.
