A Sydney cable notifies the deaths of the Rev. Pineomfoe, Methodist minister, and Mrs. Plimmer, wife of Mr. Harry Plimmer, the well-known New Zealand actor.
A London cable states that Lord Dudley anil Lord Islington (Xew Zealand'# new Governor) are promoted to be Knights Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Fnrr celebrated their diamond wedding in Christcliurch yesterday. They were married at AJoaroa in 1850, and were the first couple married in Canterbury. Captain Dudley Hewitt, son of Captain J. D. R, Hewitt, R.X., of Palmerston, has arrived home on furlough from India, where his regiment is stationed. His leave extends to October.
The death is announced of Mrs. Jellicoe, the wife of Mr. E. G. Jellicoe, formerly of Wellington, and now a 'barrister of Gray's Inn, London. Mrs. Jellicoe, who was fifty-one years of age, died on 30th A.pril at the residence, Downs House, Duke's Drive, Eastbourne. The funeral of the late Mr. Edmund Govenlock, who died at Awakino on Monday, takes place at Xew Plymouth this mornin. Mr. Govenlock, who was but thirty-eight years of age, was very popular in the Awakino district, where he had been storekeeping for some years. The new Governor, Lord Islington, informs me (writes the Wellington Times' London correspondent) that the members of his staff who will accompany him to Xew Zealand are Mr. E. Kerr Clark (private secretary) and his wife, Lady Beatrice Clark, and Captain E. M. Crich-ton-Maitland, Grenadier Guards. Mr. Clark was A.D.C. to Sir Harry Rawson in New South Wales for five years. He is a son of Mr. John Kerr Clark, formerly of Crossbasket, Scotland, and married in July of last year Lady Beatrice Moore, daughter of the late Earl of Drosheda. Captain Crichton-Maitland served in South Africa in 15)02.
Taipu, third son of Mihuta Tawhaio Potfltnu te Wliero W'hto, ex-M.L.C., chief of the Ngatiniahu\a hapu of the Wni'knto. has been formally betrothed to a daughter of Te Heu lieu Tukino, the leading Taupo chief. It is reported that the bride's father has presented Mahuta with 100.000 acres of land in the Taup© district as a dowry with his daughter. Te Heu lieu Tukino is a grandson of the'great chief Te Heu Heu. By connection he is also chief of all the tribes in the Wnikato, King Country, Wanganui, Rotorua, Hawke's Bay, Poverty Bay. and of the districts,right down to Wellington. Tukino is chairman of the Tongariro Maori Council.
