AfIHITYLENE GAS EXPLOSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Masterton, Yesterday. An acetylene gas explosion occurred in the Methodist schoolroom last night. Preparations were being made for a lantern lecture, when the fumes of carbide rising reached a gas jet and ignited. The presence of mind of Mr. Snowball, Y.M.C.A. secretary, who was operating, in holding firm the lid of the generator, saved the schoolroom. Snowball was badly burnt about the face and armß, and required medical attention.

CAIDET SHOOTISTS FOR ENGLAND. Auckland, June 24. Sergt.-Bugler J. Morgan and Sergt. J. Clarkson, of the Onehunga School Cadets, who will represent New Zealand at the Empire Cadet Rifle Competitions in England, left this evening for. Wellington. where they will join the Corinthic. Sergt.-Bugler Morgan is the holder of the Cadet Rifle Championship of the Dominion.
