AUCKLAND BY-ELECTION.
OPPOSITION CANDIDATE'S PLATFORM. By Telegraph—Press Association. . Auckland, Last Night. Mr. J?. W. Hill, the Opposition candidate for Auckland East bv-election, addressed a mid-day meeting at the Y.M.C.A. to-day. when there was a good attendance. Mr. W. 'Stewart presided. Mr., Hill spoke upon the special reforms he advocates, including the home protection system of America, checking the gambling evil and abolition of the totalisator, and the carrying of liquorprohibition iby a bare majority. In answer to a question, he dealt with the settlement of the native land difficulty on the lines of his -previous addresses. In answer to the chairman, he said he was not in favor of a three-fifths majority any longer, as he thought a bare majority would result in sain to the prohibition cause, and hi did not think there was any danger of prohibition districts going iback. He was also in favor of Dominion option. At the close of the address a hearty vote of thanks was accorded.
