CATASTROPHE AT MONTREAL

At the Herald newspaper office, Montreal, a fire water-tower, holding 10,000 gallons, crashed through four floors, pinning some employees. 'An outbreak of fire following hampered rescue worn.. Twenty-five employees were terrioly injured in being extricated from the debris. Twenty are missing. A JUMP FOR LIFE. WOMEN THROWN INTO BURNING RUINS. OVERWHELMED BY MOLTEN TYPE. Received June 14, 10 p.m. Montreal, June 14. After the tank had collapsed, many women, unable to escape, jumped from the upper windows. Three were thus killed. Finally the wall collapsed, throwing the survivors into the burning ruins. Rolls of paper in the basement emitted dense acrid smoke. Chemicals added to the poisonous fumes. The .heavy machinery crashed through the frame of the buildings. A mass of molten type overwhelmed others. The Herald is publishing an eight-page paper from the Montreal Gazette office.
