THE PREMIER AND MR. BALFOUR. MODIFYING THE ACCESSION OATH. By Cable—Press Association—Copyrigh London, June 13. The Premier, referring to the conference, said that certain communications had passed 'between himself and Mr. Balfour, which he hoped might at an early date lead to a meeting betwcm them. The Premier also intimated that he intended at an early date to bring in legislation to modify the King's accession declaration regarding the Roman Catholic faith. DEPUTATION OF SUFFRAGETTES. Received June 14, 11.10 p.m. London, June 14. Mr. Asquith receives a deputation ol the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies on the 21st. "A TRUCE SHOULD REIGN." THE ELECTIONEERING BATTLE. KEEPING OUT THE NAVY. Received June 14, 11.10 ,p.m. London. June 14. Mr. Reginald McKenna (First Lord of the Admiralty), speaking at North Monmouthshire, said that in the present condition of national feeling it would be hest that a truce should reign, but the Liberals were unable to abandon any matter of principle. He pleaded: in this time of truce that the Navy should never again be made the subject of an electioneering battle. TWO BY-ELECTIONS. SUSPENSION OF A WRIT URGED. Received June 14, 10.30 p.m. London, June 14. Writs have been issued for by-elec-tions in Hartlepool and East Dorset to replace Sir Christopher Furness and Mr. Guest, the unseated members. In the House of Commons Mr. A. Markfoam urged that the East Dorset writ should foe suspended during the session owing to the Wimiborne family's intimidation, particularly with la view to the Government's support of the Gladstone League. Mr. H. Belloc seconded the proposal.
•Sir Rufus Isaacs (Solicitor-General) strongly opposed the suggestion.
