METHODIST CONFERENCE.
vELF-GOVERNMENT FOR NEW ZEALAND. By Telesra ph.—Press Association. \ Dunedin. Last Night. The Methodist Conference this afternoon was occupied in discussing the subject of an independent conference for New Zealand. The working scheme, as suggested by the conference committee, i\as approve I after lengthy consideration. Th ( . debate was opened by the Rev. I. La wry, who moved that the proposal for an independent conference for New Zealand having been approved' by 73 per cent, of those who recorded their votes in the quarterly meetings to which the question was submitted, and l)v lafi out of a toial of 22S who voted on it in the synods, this conference declare- its conviction that the time lias arrived when independent and self-aoverninsr powers should lie oonferfcred on the" New Zealand annual conference; and the general conference is recommended to actept the accompanying working scheme and to nnss the legislation uecesasry to give effect to the same.
