Six hundred miners are digging at Wallace, where twenty-five families were buried by arTavalanehe half a mile long in the hope of saving' life, but a blizzard and snowslides greatly hampered their efforts. The whole village is now submerged with snow and ice. In some places it is sixty feet deep and is mixed with gigantic boulders and huge fir trees. The dead include include Mr. H. S. Paseoe, a millionaire, and a mining expert, whose wife and infant in arms escaped unhurt. A .later landslide occurred at Burke, in the same canyon. Several were killed, but the Mac-e disaster warned the majority of the people.
