DISTRICT NEWS
POIIOKURA. (From Our Own Correspondent). A most enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday last in Pohokura. under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church. The weather favored the function. The .school was comfortable filled. The chair was taken by Mr. John M. Stevenson, Presbyterian student. A good programme of vocal and instrumental items was given. The soloists were as follows:—Miss Margaret Speck, Mrs. Watkin, .Messrs. Raines. A. Clark. H. P. Lewis, and J. M. Stevenson. Mr. Xewing gave a pleasing harp selection. Then we laughed at Harry Lauder per the graphophone, along with many other famous performers. The machine was kindly lent by Mr. Bush. Mark Twain a l-so assisted with "Humbugging the •Guide/' read by Mr. Stevenson. At the conclusion Mr. Rickfoi'd moved a vote .of thanks to the performers, and thank--iiig Mr. and Mrs. Speck for so kindly providing the piano, without which the greater part, of the evening's enjoyment would have been missed. The vote was 'carried. "God be with you" appropriately (10-ed ail enjoyable evening.
