Wheat—The brilliant weather, til" | lower American prices, the pressure to | sell new Russian aiid Canadian grain,! are. combining to depress the markets.: There is little inquiry for cargoes. Holders are asking 42s for wheat afloat. There is hilt a small demand for Australian on the spot at 45s 3d. New Zealand longlierry is quoted at 455, sliortlicrry 44s Od. Flour.—The market is weak and inactive. Australian patent makes are quoted in London at 325, and Glasgow at I 32s Od.

Oats.—There is fair inquiry for New Zealand. 20s 8d to 21s 3d lias been paid for gartons and sparrowoills by near steamers, and 10s fid to 20s is asked for July shipments. There is a fair trade in La Plata oats at 16s Od.

Butter.—The market is quiet and unchanged. There is no demand for colonial. The Pericle's shipment has been all stored.

Copper—On the spot, £59 10s 3d; three months, £OO 15s; electrolytic, £.Ol.

Tin.—On spot, £135 ss; three months, £l3O 15s.

Lead, £l2 lis 3d. Sugar.—German, £1 os; first marks, 13s Od. Wool.—On the Bradford wool market fair business is being done. Quotations: Forties 12'/ s d, forty-sixes 1414 d, common sixties 25' Ad, super 2(i'/,d, sixtyfours, 27y 2 d. .

At the Hayinarket on Saturday good store pigs made 30s', baconers £2 8s Od, small stores lis Od to 17s, weaners 7s Od to 10s, sows £2 ss, boars £1 12s Od, horse, trap, and harness' £ls 10s, pino posts 7d. At Stratford on Tuesday there was a fair yarding of stock. Mixed yearlings made 28s Od to 33s Od, 18-months steers £2 8s Od to £2 10s Od, empty heifer* £2 0s to £2 13s' Od, store cows £2 2s to £2 13s Od, fat cows £4 to £5 ss, 3-ycar steers £4 18s Od, bulls £1 18s Od to £4.

On the same day I held my opening sale of springing heifers for this season. There was a good yarding and a fair amount of business done at the following prices:— Forward springers- £4 15s to £O, rough sorts and backward £3 to £4 10s, springing cows £4 10s to £7 12s Od.

On Wednesday I held a clearing sale at Douglas on account of Mr. W, SI. Uoss. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding was brisk throughout. Early culvers made £0 as to £8 15s, late do. £4 life to £5 10s, mixed yearlings 255, horse £l2, mare £lB, sown and litters -£2 5s to £5 2s Od, store pigs 17s. On account of other vendors, cows' £5 to £lO, springing heifers £5 os to £7, (i-tooth to f.m. ewes 0s 2d. The same dav 1 held a sale at Eaholu on account of Mr. IJ. A. .Mills. VLCKERS & STEVENS' REPORT. There was a good yarding of cattle in I our Injlewood yards on Wednesday last. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: At our Wanganui s'ale there was only a small entry of sheep and cattle, but there was good competition, and a total clearance was effected under the hammer at full rates. The usual lota wove brought under tha hammer on Friday at the Durham yards. Cattle—At the Newmarket yards On Tuesday cattle of all descriptions wore yarded in full numbers. The beef pens were well filled with cattle of-nice quality, although mostly light-weights, and competition was keen. Oxen sold to 22s per 1001b and cows from 18s to "21s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on their Huntcrville salo, held on Tuesday, as follows:—Wc had a full yarding of cattle, for which there was a good demand. We quote: Mixed yearlings 35s 4d, springing cows £3 18s to £4 lis, springing heifers' £3 to £3 5«, empty cows £2, two to two and a-half vcar steers £3 to £3 19s Od, bullocks £4 Us to £5 10s. ADDIXtiTOX. At Ad.iiugtou live stuck market tin Wednesday the entries of all classes of atoek wore small. The yarding of store sheep was a small mixed one, and the salo was a dull one, few buyers being present, and prices were easier. There were.only seven or eight .pens of fat hoggets' offered, aad they were mostly small and inferior sorts, and they met with a dragging sale, prices ranging from 0s to 13s Od. A few new season's lambs were penned, and they made His to 17s. The yarding of fat sheep was a small one, but was about sufficient for requirements, as 'butchers were well supplied the week before. I'rices at the opening were about equal to last week's rates, but afterwards became weaker. The 'range of prices was:—Extra'prime wethers 25s to 31s', prime 10s to 10s, lighter 12s 8d to 15s Odj prime ewes 13s fid to 15s, others 10s 8d to 13s;' extra prime merino wethers 17s to 19s, lighter 10s 6d to 12s fld. The entry of fat cattle totalled only 150 head of ordinary quality, and there was a little more briskness iu bidding, values being better by about Od per 1001b. Steers sold at £s' 17s Od to £lO 10s, heifers £4 2s Od to £0 10s, and cows £4 to £0 los—equal to 20s to 23s Od for prime, 18s Od to 20a for medium, and 10s Od to 18s' for cow and inferior beef per 1001b. The bulk of the entry was composed*f dealers' lines. A small yarding of veal calves sold at 4s Od to £3 10s. A lair entry of store cattle came forward, principally well-grown sorts. A medium entry of dairy cows met with good demand, and all were sold at prices ranging from £3 to £8 10s. A small yarding of pigs sold at improved rates. Heavy baconers made 58s to 05s, medium 60s to 50s—equal to 4%d per lb; large porkers' 44s to s(te, smaller 35s to 42s—equal to o'/.d to Od per lb; large stores 30s to 35s,"mcduim 24s to 28s, and small wcancrs 14s 6d to 17s Od.

DUXEDIN. At itunisidc stock market on Wednesday 202 fat cattle were varded, consisting principally of prime bullocks and heifers. Prices opened at about lust weeks rates for prime cattle, but towards the end showed a drop of about 5s to !0s per head. Unfinished cattle dec med about the same extent.
