RAHOTU. Tennis, tke popular summer pastime, has nude its appearance in Rahotu, Mr
Jas. tirooni, of the Rahotu nursery having placed his lawn at. the disposal .of the tennis players. • The lawn was opened last Wednesday, when there was a good attendance. l'he game should lill a long-telt want here in the summer, as the encket cluu is pract.cally defunct, owing to the milking taking up so much tiuie; and preventing a team from being gut together. Professor Thomas, ventriloquist, etc,, gave an entertainment in tho local hall on Friday, which was only fairly patronised. The entertainment was a good one, and was certainly deserving of better patronage.
The weather has been much better lately and as a result the grass is coming on well and the milk supply is rapidly increasing. Farmers here are looking for a good season, particularly aa with the advent of the cheese factory they will get an increased price for their milk.
Matters in connection with; the Kahotu Cooperative Dairy Company are progressing very smoothly. Mr W. E. I'eicival, who has been appointed architect, has visited the site and arrangements will be made to commence building almost immediately. It is intended, if possible, to have the factory in working order very early in the new year.
Mr T. E. Julian who has been in cliargo of a gang of men for the Governments Roads Department, clearing the Wirenm road near the Arawliata just shifted camp to the Mountain Reserve, where a portion of the, summer will be spent in making and improving tourist tracks. It is expected that in a very few weeks the track will ho completed from the Rahotu house to Bells' Falls, making it possible for visitors to travel from one moun.tain house to another. There will then probably be a larger number visit the Kahotu house, around which there are so many historical spots, and close to which is the Okahu Gorge, which some say cannot be equalled for rugged grandeur on the whole mountain. I
A meeting of the Rahotu Sports Club was held on Saturday evening in the Rahotu Hotel. In the absence of the chairman, Mr AYilloiighby presided. Various arrangements were made in connecncetion with the forthcoming sport* meeting. It was also decided to ar. range for a band to pbiy at the sports, which promise to be most successful. Mr Stevens, Inspector of Post Offices, was on a visit to Rahotu, inspecting tho local office, last week.
