SURVEYORS' GRIEVANCES.

Per Press Association. I Auckland, Last Night. The delay which exists in securing tha I survey of Native and Crown lands In many parts of the country has led to the supposition that there is ft dearth of surveyors. For the purpose of cor. recting this erroneous impression, a meeting of the Auckland committee of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors was held to bring before the Native Affairs Committee the reason why surveyors will not undertake the. survey of Native lands. The lack of any guarantee of payment for the large amount of labor and out-of-pocket expenses attending this class of survey is one of the many financial difficulties with which the surveyor has to contend, and a survey line is not a negotiable security when acquired. The Auckland committee decided to urge upon the members of the Native Affairs Committee the necessity of embodying in the Bill now before them a recommendatiOn that power be given to the Sur-veyor-General to employ licensed surveyors at fixed rates to execute all Native Land Court and Maori Land Board work. A number of other suggestions dealing with the present difficulty of obtaining the approval of plans.'eto.,' were also forwarded to the Native Affairs Committee.
