Cheers were given foe the British troops in South Africa, for Mr. Ward, and for the New Zealanders at the **■ front. The close of Mafeking day was marked by a gathering of citizens at the General Post-office at the invitation of Mr. Ward, Postmaster-General. Among the speakers were Bishop "Wallis, the Hon. W. C. Walker, the Mayor, Rev. J. Patercon, Colonel Pole-Penton, Messrs. H. Beauchamp J. Plimmer, sen., T. M, Wilford, and the Hon. Mr. Ward. An announcement was made by the latter that the Government proposed to send a most cordial invitation to Colonel Baden-Powell to visit New Zealand, as had alreidy been done in the case of Lord Roberts.
