DOCHERTY'S DEATH,

' Dunedln, July 28. . Samuel Dohertyi who was badly burnt m the fire at Cargill street yesterday morning, died in the Hospital to-day. An inquest was opened this afternoon: on the bodies of Duncan MacDonnell and Samuel Doherty, the victims of the nre in Cargill street on Sunday morning. '.•■■■
Evidence showed that there were 13 boarders, mostly .seamen, in the house besides eight -members of the household. The fire was discovered in a room occupied by Doherty, and then had a good hold. The house was not licensed as a boarding-house. Medical evidence showed that both men were badly burned. In the Hospital on Sunday morning. Doherty admitted having been threeparts drunk. When the alarm was given a man named Clarke found Doherty lying on a bed with all his clothes on, and woke him up.' Un arrival at the house, the superintendent of the Fire Brigade was informed that everybody was out except the proprietress, who was in the kitchen, but on going upstairs subsequently lie found Doherty. McDonnell's body was found shortly afterwards. Doherty informed the police on Sunday that he got out of the room, tut went back to get his money. The inquest was adjourned till Wednesday, the Coroner stating that he wanted to look into the by-laws and consider the whole matter further.
