BRITISH MAN-POWER.
GOVERNMENT'S SCHEME INADE-
QUATE
COLONEL REPINGTON'S VIEWS,
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association)
(Received Jan. 25," 8.40 p.m.) London, Jan. 24. Colonel Repington, in an article in the "Morning Post," criticises the Government's man-power proposal. He ■states that.the Germans alone have accumulated 165 divisions in tie West, and he estimates that fronr2oo to 220 divisions will eventually be thrown against the British and French, although they may attack before the concentrations are complete in order to forestall the Americans. He expects the arrival of tie Austrians, some of whom are already in Belgium.
The British casualties for the war period are only a little higher than the French dead. The British need at least §80,000 men in addition to tie 450,000 already in view. A hundred thousand men should be withdrawn from distant campaigns notably at Salonika. The comb-out should be increased by 320,000, and conscription should be extended to Ireland, yielding 200,000 men.
