Sir J-ohn Trench reports that the situation was unchanged throughout the week, the operations being of a minor character. The Preach took a German trench east of Berry-au-bac. The Oarp;*thUns battle developed with gr«nt intensity on Sunday, the Russians securing a victory in the Uszok region, and'repulsing the enemy with heavy losses at other points. It is new stated that an attempt by the German cruiser squadron to reach our northern guard in the North Sea is anticipated, with the object of diverting a considerable portion of the British fleet. A. mysterious fire and explosion-occurred at .Lerwick, Shetland/wrecking the main street, and causing five fatalities.
