BAND CONTEST.

Christchurch, April S. The following is the complete result of the A Grade test at the band contest :—Woolston, 89 and 94, total 183, ■1; Timaru, 82 and 90, total 172/2;. Waaganui, 92 and 77, total 169,.3. Hibernian (Invercargill), 80 and 88, total ; 16 8; Nelson, 87 and SO,,total 167;WeUington Tramways, 84 and 82, total 166; Westport, 74 and 86, total 160Oamaru, 77 and 74, total 151. The final test selection was "Souvenir de Richard Wagner." It is long and very heavy, and tested the bands^ severely in stamina. The Woolston Band, which made a. remarkable success with their interpretation of the "Meyerbeer" selection, surpassed laßt night their first score. The final march particularly, was executed with wonderful brilliancy and tone power. On the other hand, the Pilgrims' Chorus was understood in its ideal meaning by only the Wanganui Band. Timaru on both nights gave highly creditable and thoughtful performances. The InvercargiU Hibernians made a splendid fight for fourth place.
