Danneuirke, Oct. 7. During the past Wo days a heavy eale has fanned smouldering lop; fires into a serious menace to the whole countryside. There ure big fires at Terehunga, Ruaroa, tfm^°™ a> Piripiri, Makotuku, Raumati, Tepapakuku and elsewhere. . , Settlers in all those dietnc s spent tie last two nights fire-fighting. But for their efforts many places would have been destroyed. , As itis, considerable damage has been done! Ruaroa district reporting the loss of several houses. The settlers there who have been L Hotter, and W. Inglis, lan s old hnmpstead was also destroyed. . Many outbuildings have been burned nnd fences destroyed. - Though the conditions are not so struction. of spring feed.
