WELLINGTON WOOL, SKINS, AND HIDES SALE.
Messrs. E. Buxton and Co., Ltd., have received the following report from their Wellington agents with reference to the fortnightly sale held there on Friday last:— We offered a catalogue of 1500 sheepskins, 400 hides and calfskins, besides the usual oddments of tallow, etc. There was a vory good attendance of buyers, and competition for all produce was keen and animated, and prices showed an advance of a halfpenny per pound for sheepskins, and a farthing to three-eighths of a penny for'hides, higher grades of the latter being in extreme demand. Calfskins showed an advance of fully a halfpenny per lb. on the average. We offered some good lines of salted crossbred skins, which >]icitcd keen bidding, and the top price of 8s each for a few exceptionally heavily wooled skins was obtained. The following represent the range of values current: —
Wool: Crossbred, rough seedy, 6£d to 6£d; locks, 3d to 3Jd; crutchings, 5d to 6£dSheepskins: Crossbred, fine, 7d zo 7-M; coarse to medium, 7d to 7sd; half wools, 5d to s£d ; dead and inferior, 4d to 6d; inferior and badly damaged, l£d to 3£d; damp and salted, 3s to 6s 9d; exceptional, 8s; pelts, to Is 6d each.
Hides: Ox, heavy, 7*d to 8d; medium, 7jd to Bd,; light, 7id to 7|d; cow, heavy, 7jd to 7fd; medium, 7jd to 7fd; light, 7^d to 7fd; cut and slippy, 5d to 7Jd; bulls.'. '-JJd to 4*d. calf, super, 11-Jd to 12£ d; medium to good, lOd to lid; damaged, 5d to 9|d. Tallow: Casks, to 21s cwt; tins, 10s to 16s cwt. ' , The next sale is fixed for the 16th October.
