THE MAORI CONTINGENT.
APPEAL BY MR. PARATA, M.P.
FUND TO PROVIDE COMFORTS
AND ACCESSORIES
VSpecial to "The Colonist,") Wellington, Oct. b. Mr. T. Parata* the member for t-he Southern Maori district, who is acting as secretary tnd treasurer to the committee of Native members of Parliament that is assisting in the despatr,:v of a Maori contingent to the war, is appealing, for subscriptions :to a fund that is being raised to provide comforts and accessories for the- members of the contingent. The Maoris iii every part of the Dominion have been generous contributors to the war fund and to the other funds raised in connection with the Expeditionary Force, and Mr. Parata feels that their European fellowcountrymen will be glad of an opportunity to show their appreciation of the
Natives' action by helping in the present effort to send the Maori soldiers away under the very best conditions. Mr. Parata. says he would rather have £2000 subscribed in shillings than twice the amount in £10 notes, his desire being that the men should go abroad with the consciousness that they have the hearty good-will of the European people.
