Washington, April 28

An explosion in the New River Collieries' Company's mine at Beckley, West Virginia, entombed 250 men in the 600 feet level.

A rescue crew was promptly organised, and .■rescued two men who were seriously injured, but was unable to reach the others.

The explosion was so severe that it was heard miles distant.
