The 'Inspector of , Factories (Mr. S. Tyson) proceeded against H. J. Flatt on a charge of having employed one George Matthews, who was not a member of the Nelson labourers' Union, and failing within '-)l hour?. +o Hve notice in writing <■' *''-' ■-wi-invy <-f tho union. Defendant admitted the breach, and said that when he employed the. man he understood he was a member of a union. Defendant was convicted, and a fine of 10s imposed.
