A BABY'S DEATH.
PECULIAR CASE AT ASHBURTON.

As'nburton, April 28. The nine months old son of Mrs F. S. Wilcocks, a widow, residing at. the residence of Mr W. H. Price, of Seaheld road, Ashburton, met- M»: death this morning in a peculiar manner. It appears |h at at 10 o'clock the mother put the baby to sleep in a go-cart . bhe ti'Hl his "clothes to the back of> the perambulator with.a tcp?, so that ho could not fp.H out in- her nhsence, and. loit him in the kiwhen. She then, in company with Mr Price, drove to Tmwald, and" after calling at a house there, returned to her residence at Seafield road, having been absent about an hour. On entering the kitchen-.she saw the child suspended between the go-cart and the floor by the tape. She immediately got him in her arms, drove to Ashburton, and consulted a # doctor, who pronounced life to be extinct It coems that the baby struggled out of the perambulator, and fell over the side, and was held in such a position by tne tape as to cause death. . Tho inquest was adjourned till i<nday to allow of a post-mortem examination being made.
