MOTUEKA.
Cr. Moffatt. one of the candidates for the Mayoralty, addressed a large meeting of electors in tho Anglican schoolroom on Monday evening last.
Cr.. Grooby occupied the chair, an-d in introducing the speaker, stated that Cr. Moffatt had made an excel lout councillor, and ho had no doubt that ho would, make an equally, excellent. Mayor if elected. '
Cr. Moffatt, who was 'received with' applause, stated that any candidate for, public office should address the electors, and by that means help to killtho apathy that was so pronounced in public matters in Motueka. He was not seeking the office of Mayor for persona' 4 position, but solely to show his keen interest in the affairs of the borough..:
He -said he had taken a leading part iri the putting of the fruit-growing industry on a solid foundation, and many ofhis suggestions' had become statute law: in the government of this important section of our exports. Twelve years ago he had formulated and published pi ■scheme for the formation of a fire brigade. The brigade ' had since beers formed, and he was at the present tiroo captain of that institution.'
