Mr. Alfred Win. Duncan has been appointed receiver of land revenue at Nelson, vice Mr. J. R. Mac Donald, telegraphs our Wellington representative.

Miss Eva Culveru.cll, in charge of the reference library at the Bunedin free public library, has been appointed librarian at Tiinaru.

Mr. J. A. Mat.hieson, formerly local manager for John Fuller and Song is now publicity manager m the BroimanFuller vaudeville circuit and assistant manager of the National Amphitheatre, Sydney.

A London cable states that Captain Duigan, a. Netf'Zealander, has qualified, and has been ; nominated to the Staff College at Q.uetta. ,

Mis. Scott, wife of Captain Scott, has left San Francisco to meet her husband.

She expects him to return to Lyttelton in March. Mrs. Scott does not doubt that her husband' is safe.

A Sydney cable states that Captain Hutton, aide-do-camp to Lord Liverpool, has arrived.

Professor Richards, who holds the chair of Mathematics at the Otago University, i,s spending a portion of his vacation in Nelson and visiting the surrounding districts.

Thf» late -Mr. John Arnold, who died at Wainiea West on Tuesday night, was a native of Cork. Me was born in 1840, came to the Dominion in 1862, and spent much time in Maryborough shearing in the early days. For many years afterwards he was farming at Waimca. West,, when he occupied seats on the school committee and local bodies. He leaves a widow and a family of three sons and five daughters living, one son and one daughter having predeceased him.
