The election returns:-ilndicato an overwhelming victory for tho Democrats. Tho party captured New York State by a majority exceeding 100,000. Tho Democrats captured Maryland. Mr Roosevelt leads Mr Taft at Chicago and New York. Mr Roosevelt carried Illinois. The Democrats captured New York State in tho Senate and Lower House 'elections. Tho splitting of tho vote lost the State to tho Republicans, as Mr Taft's and Mr Roosevelt's votes combined in most instances exceeded tho Democrats' total. Tiicro is the heaviest vote for tho Presidential election ever recorded in tho history of the United States. Mr Woodrow Wilson voted for himself.

Mr Roosovelt found himself unregistered in consequence of his inability to leave Chicago at the proper time, owing to tho bullet wound inflictod by the would-be assassin Schrank.
