FRIENLY SOCIETY'S SPORTS
The Friendly Society's sports which took place at the Motucka cricket ground on Easter Monday were largely attended, and a capital day's sport was provided. The Motueka Brass Band was in attendance and played selections during the day. Appended are the results :—
Maiden Race, 150 yards (6 entries) —R. Fowler 1, J. W. Smith 2. Time 17 1-5 sees.
120 Yards Handicap, Youths under 10— G. Sigglekow 1, N. McFarlaue 2.
220 Yards Hurdle Handicap (nine entries)—R. Fowler (7 yards) 1, J. Purkes (7 yards) 2. Time 28 1-5 sees.
Cycle Handicap, two miles (seven entries)—L. Green (130 yards) 1, It. Neiman (scratch) 2. Time, smins 50 sees.
880 Yards Handicap (12 entries)— E. W. Scott (scratch) 1, M. H. MeGlashen (3 yards) 2, L. Franklyn (20 yards) 3. Time, 2mins 5 3-5 sees.
Friendly Societies Handicap, 220 yards (11 entries) —11. Fowler (10 yards) 1, E. Tooby (3 yards) 2.
Spar Boxing (6 entries) —J. Boyce 1, N. Rowling 2. This event caused a great deal of amusement.
Boys' Race —Lynch 1, Sigglekow 2, B. McFarlane 3.
440 Yards Handicap (10 entries) — J. W. Smith (15 yards) 1, R. Fowler (15 yards) 2. Time, 58 1-5 sees.
Three .Mile Cycle Handicap'—L. Green (150 yards) 1, H. Bradley (scr) 2, P. Nieman (scr) 3. Time, 9mins lGsees. Green also won the lap prizes. About 200 yards separated him and the second man.
Case-making Competition, four best made dump cases and quickest time (eight entries) —F. McKcc 1, Harry Everett 2. Time, 2mins 28secs. Best time, 1). Mickel, 2mins Osecs. Cycle Tilting in the Ring—Goodall (six rings) I.* 100 Yards Handicap (seven entries) —E. Tooby (scr) 1, Pike (scr) 2. Time, 10 4-5 sees. A good race. Won by inches.
