A Westport wire states that Lieut. Duncan, the . champion marksmen, who returned to Wostport by the Ara!iura on Sunday night, was welcomed by a large gathering of townspeople, including the Artillery and Garrison Band, the latter playing suitable ser lections. The' champion was borne r.houlder high by his comrades from Millerton.

The death occurred at Parnell, Auckland, a few days ago of Mr Heriry Thomas Pycrof t, an early resident of New Zealand, who was closely identified with education in the Auckland province years-ago. Mr Pycroft was 6he eldest son of Sir Thomas Pycroft, and after leaving school entered the Army, being stationed at Madras. In 1865' he' came to New Zealand, and joined/tho Armed Constabulary, seeing service in the Maori War. He afterwards settled in Auckland, and en-tered-the service of the Education -Board there, subsequently holding the appointment of headmaster of the Church of England Grammar-School. Mr Pycroft was related to Mrs G. Olutten, of Nelson. . '
